How The Vault Report Researches
The Vault Report is the precious-metals and commodity-inventory desk published by ByShovel. Every briefing, research article, and live tile on this site is compiled by the ByShovel Research Desk from primary sources, then checked against the original filing before it is published.
Primary sources, not aggregators
We pull from the institutions that publish the data, not from sites that repackage it. That keeps the number on this page the same number that appears in the official report, with the original as the citation.
- CME Group / COMEX daily warehouse reports for registered and eligible gold, silver, copper, platinum, and palladium stocks.
- London Metal Exchange live and on-warrant stocks for the industrial metals.
- U.S. Energy Information Administration weekly petroleum status, Cushing crude, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve series.
- LBMA, SHFE, and Tokyo retail reference prices for the global spreads we track against COMEX.
How a figure gets published
- 1. Ingest the raw report from the source on its own schedule.
- 2. Reconcile it against the prior reading so a bad parse or a stale feed is caught before it ships.
- 3. Publish the live number with the date it covers and a link back to the primary source.
When we say a level is the lowest since a given year, or that a spread has crossed a threshold, that claim is anchored to a dated reading you can verify on the relevant dashboard: COMEX, LME, oil, and the SPR.
